Designer Develops 2,000-Piece LEGO Set Influenced by Daft Punk’s Renowned Pyramid Stage

# Reimagining Daft Punk’s Iconic *Alive* Tour: A LEGO Homage by Patrick Harboun and His Son

In the mid-2000s, Daft Punk was widely acknowledged as a trailblazer in electronic music. Their memorable *Alive* tour, highlighted by a mesmerizing headline performance at Coachella, reinforced their legacy not just as artists but as forerunners in crafting immersive live experiences. A significant component of their performances was a now-famous pyramid stage structure embellished with pulsating triangular displays and colossal projection screens, which transformed every concert into a futuristic sensory journey.

This renowned stage has now been preserved in a creative and nostalgic format: a 2,000-piece LEGO set. This remarkable project, envisioned and constructed by French LEGO artisan Patrick Harboun (also known as RobotRock) and his son, aims to pay tribute to Daft Punk’s visual and auditory heritage. Together, the father-son team has assembled a detailed LEGO replica of Daft Punk’s *Alive* stage set, featuring vibrant lighting, dynamic components—and perhaps even more thrilling, miniature figures of the enigmatic, masked musicians, Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo.

## A Pandemic Endeavor Fueled by Passion

The adventure that ignited this extraordinary creation began in 2020 during the COVID-19 lockdowns. Like many others during that time, Harboun and his son sought a creative outlet amid a challenging period. Their passion for Daft Punk, combined with their enthusiasm for LEGO building, set the foundation for an ambitious father-son project.

“This project started in 2020 as a fun collaboration between father and son, evolving into something grand as we found ourselves in need of a creative escape during lockdown,” shares Harboun. He notes that both he and his son are devoted fans of Daft Punk: “I spent my teenage years enjoying *Homework* on my Walkman, while my son’s first favorite baby song was ‘Get Lucky.’” Their LEGO creation thus serves not only as a tribute to Daft Punk but as a representation of familial connection through creativity.

## A Challenging Architectural Achievement: Constructing Daft Punk’s Pyramid

At the core of the LEGO set lies the pyramid structure—a complex build that demanded a great deal of creativity and technical endurance. The cube of transparent bricks enclosed within the pyramid rotates on a motorized mechanism. Colorful rainbow lights hang inside, echoing the dazzling visuals of Daft Punk’s live performances.

“LEGO bricks are seldom employed for triangular constructions, so we had to devise imaginative approaches to fit all those angles together,” explains Harboun. Building a modular design that faithfully captured the aesthetics and geometry of Daft Punk’s pyramid stage required innovative solutions, culminating in a brilliant arrangement of transparent and angled pieces.

## Crafting Mini Figures of the Iconic Duo

Another significant aspect of the project was the creation of accurate and instantly recognizable representations of Daft Punk’s members, Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo, complete with their trademark futuristic helmets. However, the design process was not without its challenges. To adhere to LEGO Ideas’ stringent copyright regulations, Patrick Harboun produced two versions of the helmeted figures: one with custom-made components, and another using standard LEGO helmet molds that closely mimic the appearance of the band’s legendary outfits as seen in Pharrell Williams’ *Brick by Brick* film.

Despite these constraints, the duo’s iconic robot personas continue to shine through as perfect highlights of the stunning set.

## The Path from LEGO Ideas to Worldwide Recognition

In 2020, Harboun’s Daft Punk *Alive* set gained attention in LEGO’s global *Music To Our Ears!* competition. The set even secured the Grand Prize, showcasing its appeal and the potential nostalgia it generated for fans of both Daft Punk and LEGO alike. Nevertheless, despite the accolades, LEGO did not choose the build for official release.

Now, Harboun and his son are giving it “one more shot”—a fitting nod to the title of one of Daft Punk’s most beloved tracks. They have resubmitted the set via LEGO’s *Ideas* platform, striving to attain the 10,000 votes necessary for the project to be officially reviewed for mass production.

As of the time of this writing, the campaign has amassed nearly 3,000 votes, and Harboun is optimistic that community backing will help reach their target. If you’re a fan of LEGO, Daft Punk, or simply admire remarkable creativity, you can contribute to bringing this potential collector’s item to fruition by supporting the project on its LEGO Ideas page.

## What’s Next for the Daft Punk Set?

For enthusiasts of both LEGO and Daft Punk, this ambitious undertaking embodies a perfect blend of music and creativity. Should it reach the sought-after 10,000 votes, LEGO will evaluate the design for possible production, making it accessible to a worldwide audience.
