Opulent Retreat Engraved in the Historic Mountains of Saudi Arabia
Situated in the historic Hejaz Mountains of Saudi Arabia, Oppenheim Architecture has designed an expansive resort that harmonizes with its natural setting. The Desert Rock resort pays tribute to the region’s rock-hewn architecture, featuring numerous facilities spread over 30,000 square meters.
Guests can choose from a variety of luxurious accommodations tailored to their desires. For those seeking breathtaking vistas, the striking Cliff Hanging Villas are ideal, while visitors looking for seclusion may prefer the Mountain Cave Suites and Mountain Crevice Villas. The epitome of luxury is represented by the Royal Villa, a retreat located in a secluded area of the valley.
By utilizing salvaged materials from the excavation and incorporating passive cooling systems, Desert Rock exemplifies Oppenheim Architecture’s dedication to sustainable tourism.
“Desert Rock captures our ethos of linking architecture with the essence of the locale. By honoring and enhancing the natural landscape, we have crafted a refuge that enables guests to engage with the beauty and vitality of the environment in profoundly personal and significant ways,” states Chad Oppenheim, a principal founder of the firm.
Depending on their accommodations, guests will be granted access to private pools scattered throughout the valley or positioned on cliffs. Whether residing in a ground-level villa or a spacious suite integrated into the mountainside, Desert Rock provides an experience that immerses visitors in nature. Additionally, they can enjoy amenities such as treatments at the resort’s spa and a variety of dining options, including wood-fired cuisine featuring local ingredients. With a fitness center, a children’s club, and numerous outdoor activities like dune exploration, Desert Rock caters to every family member.
As the newest project from the Red Sea Development Company (RSDC), the resort is part of the developer’s initiative to foster responsible tourism that respects its surroundings.
