Chris Evans Misses Cannes Film Premiere to Honor His Mother’s 70th Birthday

For numerous individuals, family takes precedence, and actor Chris Evans is no different. He recently chose to forgo the world premiere of his new film, *Honey Don’t!*, on Friday, May 23, to honor his mother’s 70th birthday. His decision illustrates that even amidst Hollywood, certain aspects outweigh the limelight.

On Sunday, May 25, Evans, 43, posted on his Instagram Stories to clarify his absence from the premiere. “I wish I could’ve been with my amazing cast and filmmakers at Cannes,” he wrote, “but it was my mother’s 70th birthday, and there are moments you simply cannot overlook! Congrats everyone!!”

Evans maintains a unique connection with his mother, Lisa, and he even consulted her when weighing the choice to take on the iconic character of Captain America. According to Lisa, her son—at a pivotal juncture in his career—felt apprehensive about losing his privacy. She recalled, “He said, ‘I have a career now where I can engage in work I truly enjoy. I can walk my dog. Nobody disturbs me. Nobody wants to converse with me. I can go wherever I wish. And the thought of losing that is frightening to me.’”

Imparting her maternal insights, Lisa advised Evans, “Listen, do you want to pursue acting for the rest of your life? If you accept this role, you will have that chance. You’ll never have to stress about covering your rent. If you accept the role, just ensure it doesn’t detrimentally impact my life—it will enhance it.” Her motivation persuaded Evans to accept the part, which ultimately became his significant breakthrough.

Helmed by Ethan Coen, *Honey Don’t!*—also featuring Margaret Qualley and Aubrey Plaza—is a dark comedy that centers on a small-town private investigator named Honey O’Donahue (portrayed by Qualley), who reveals a series of strange deaths associated with a mysterious church. As per the Cannes website, Evans plays a “charismatic cult guru” in the film.

*Honey Don’t!* is slated for theatrical release on August 22, 2025. Watch the trailer below.
