Artist Creates Hyper-Realistic Coffee Tables Inspired by Food
For artist Kamber Carroll, based in Utah, inventive ideas are perpetually in the works. He crafts tables inspired by food and drink that infuse any environment with a whimsical, nostalgic ambiance. From an enormous ice cream sandwich featuring gooey drips for legs to a pancake stack that appears almost edible, each table seems like a creation you’d imagine when hunger strikes.
Carroll conceived the concept of transforming food into furniture to merge nostalgia, playful aesthetics, and large-scale functional artistry. “It all started with a straightforward notion, a ‘coffee table’ that was literally a coffee cup,” he shares with My Modern Met. “That clever play on words ignited an entire series of engaging, practical pieces that allowed me to weave together creativity and utility.” The result was a banquet of table designs resembling desserts and sandwiches, each offering a delightful take on conventional furniture.
Each distinctive table takes approximately two to three weeks to finalize. Additionally, Carroll invests another week in brainstorming and sketching before he begins crafting the piece. He employs various techniques and materials, molding shapes from foam and clay, and often finishing with bright spray-painted hues. He even makes custom rugs for each table to rest on using a tufting gun. “The process involves a considerable amount of hands-on exploration, sculpting, and finishing to ensure each piece conveys boldness, quality craftsmanship, and joy,” Carroll says. “Everything from the rugs to the tables themselves and the coasters are all made by hand.”
Carroll showcases the creation process of his sculptural pieces on Instagram, where his tantalizing designs attract millions of views. Much like the authentic desserts and treats they emulate, each table makes viewers yearn for more. One individual commented on Instagram, “I want every single one of these, how can I justify owning 20+ tables?” while another quipped, “If I ever win the lottery I won’t tell anyone but there will be signs.”
