Van Gogh’s Renowned Floral Masterpieces Reimagined at New York Botanical Garden

Vincent van Gogh’s profound appreciation for the natural world was a continual wellspring of creativity throughout his short existence. Blooms, especially, are prominent in many of the celebrated Dutch Post-Impressionist artist’s notable pieces, from his famous Sunflowers to the esteemed Irises. Now, you can see Van Gogh’s floral paintings come to life at the Van Gogh’s Flowers exhibit at the New York Botanical Garden (NYBG).

From towering sculptures of sunflowers to a remarkable recreation of The Garden of the Hospital in Arles (painted by Van Gogh in 1889), the Van Gogh’s Flowers showcase transforms NYBG’s sprawling 250-acre grounds into a vibrant homage to the Dutch genius. The floral displays were realized through partnerships with modern artists Lee Baker and Catherine Borowski of Graphic Rewilding and immersive artist Cyril Lancelin, who designed the 3D sunflower field. Additionally, Kansas City-based sculptor Amie Jacobsen crafted large-scale renditions of Van Gogh’s still lifes, featuring irises, roses, and imperial fritillaries.

Attendees can also engage in a LEGO Botanical Garden pop-up, along with a “Plein Air Drop-In and Paint” event, where you can unleash your inner Van Gogh. NYBG is screening Loving Vincent, an animated feature about Van Gogh’s life, on various dates. Moreover, on certain evenings, the sky lights up with a Starry Night drone show, illuminating the night with the artist’s iconic swirling heavens. This remarkable exhibition provides art and nature enthusiasts of all ages with an opportunity to fully engage with the life and creations of one of history’s most legendary artists.

NYBG’s Van Gogh’s Flowers will be available until October 26, 2025. Discover more and purchase your tickets through the New York Botanical Garden website.
