Fareed crafts her exquisite, resin-encased works using preserved flowers and botanicals, as well as ethically sourced butterfly and moth specimens crafted from paper. She obtains her flowers locally from wholesale florists, wildflower meadows, and sometimes from her own mother’s garden. Each fragile botanical is then chemically dehydrated before being carefully arranged alongside rustic, live-edge wooden slabs and sealed in glossy epoxy resin.
The deep backgrounds highlight the vivid flowers, producing an enchanting, nocturnal scene that’s utterly captivating. “I choose flowers and botanicals instinctively, primarily based on their colors, textures, and petal shapes,” Fareed shares with My Modern Met. “I enjoy working with bright, lively colors from the start, as they tend to create the most beautifully haunting effect when placed against my signature infinite black epoxy backgrounds.” In one particularly evocative piece, Fareed included a genuine raccoon skull she discovered in the woods during a walk with her dog. On Instagram, she expresses, “I love natural history.”
