Dolce & Gabbana Presents a Series of Opulent Events in Rome Honoring Artisanal Fashion
Iconic Italian fashion label Dolce & Gabbana recently transformed Rome into an extravagant runway with their annual Alta Moda affair. This remarkable series of events celebrated Alta Moda, Alta Sartoria, and Alta Gioielleria, staged at historic locations such as the Roman Forum, Castel Sant’Angelo, and Hadrian’s Villa in Tivoli. Renowned for its focus on handcrafted fashion, the event paid tribute to traditional Italian craftsmanship and artistry.
The Alta Moda event, which began in Taormina in 2012, seeks to highlight the artistry involved in crafting handmade garments, emphasizing intricate embroidery, opulent fabric, and precise metalwork. This year’s event coincided with a Jubilee Year, adding an additional layer of importance.
On July 14, during the Alta Moda event, models presented collections inspired by Rome’s rich history and culture at the Roman Forum. The outfits showcased luxurious materials like brocade and chiffon, turning each item into a piece of wearable art. A notable piece was a coat inspired by the Trevi Fountain, made using an intarsia method, reflecting the profound care and attention to detail that went into its creation.
The soirée progressed to Hadrian’s Villa in Tivoli, where the Alta Gioielleria collection was unveiled the prior evening. Here, the attention shifted to exquisite jewelry pieces drawing inspiration from ancient Roman sculptures. The intricate manipulation of gold and precious stones highlighted the craftsmanship behind these designs.
The event concluded at Castel Sant’Angelo with a showcase of Alta Sartoria. Male models paraded ecclesiastical-inspired fashion, traversing the Ponte Sant’Angelo, flanked by Bernini’s angel sculptures. From bronze filigree bodices to robe-like outfits, the collection showcased the craftsmanship and innovation that define high-end tailoring.
For those who were unable to attend, Dolce & Gabbana has offered a glimpse into the lavish realm of Alta Moda on their YouTube channel, providing full videos of the Alta Moda and Alta Sartoria showcases.
