Seattle Art Fair Showcases Pacific Northwest’s Glass Legacy and Global Art Pieces
Art fairs serve as the marketplace for art where pieces change hands, but they also provide a space for art enthusiasts to gather and appreciate the experience of viewing. The Seattle Art Fair made its return for another iteration, showcasing these two aspects of the art scene. From July 17 to July 20, 2025, Lumen Field Event Center in the city became a lively hub of galleries from the Pacific Northwest (PNW) and beyond.
This marked the 9th edition of the Seattle Art Fair, featuring approximately 90 galleries presenting artwork. Typically, the fair highlights a regional character, drawing on the PNW’s glass heritage and the impacts of technology and nature. This year maintained that tradition. For example, artist Niki Keenan displayed a diptych titled Meteor Flower in the Astral Islands, which “evoked the verdant Pacific Northwest as a place of healing and transformation.” Nathan Shafer and Mengloth Entertainment developed an interactive augmented reality video game named Head Touches Place: The Black Pyramid, which interprets the medium as a type of installation art. This work combined elements of conspiracy theory, folklore, and speculative gaming narratives.
Glass art holds significant value in the region’s creative history and was prominently featured at the fair. The Museum of Glass in nearby Tacoma and the Pilchuck Glass School (established by the iconic glass artist Dale Chihuly) teamed up for live glassblowing exhibitions at the main entry. Additionally, other glass-centric displays took place, including one from the Pittsburgh Glass Center and a temporary installation by the Corning Museum of Glass showcasing contemporary glass artists.
Community engagement is essential to the fair itself. Together with the Seattle Art Museum, the organization facilitated educational discussions, curated tours, and special events to enhance visitors’ knowledge and appreciation of contemporary art. Through these efforts, the Seattle Art Fair aims to foster a community-centric art experience that both collectors and those curious about art can value.
