Contemporary Aesthetics Blend with Classic Wine Production at Tuscan Vineyard

When you think of wines from Italy, Chianti certainly comes to your mind. However, you’ve never encountered a winery in Chianti quite like Antinori’s. Established in 2012, Antinori nel Chianti Classico stands as a masterpiece of contemporary architecture and traditional wine production. Set within the central Tuscan landscape, the estate boasts a cutting-edge design crafted by Italian architect Marco Casamonti. Nowadays, visitors can immerse themselves in the enchanting atmosphere and taste Antinori’s wines through winery tours, tastings, and dining at the estate’s rooftop restaurant, Rinuccio 1180.

As you enter the estate, the effect is instantaneous, yet not in the expected manner. Instead of confronting a traditional structure, Casamonti integrated it into the hillside, embedding it three levels deep and enveloping it with more than 11 acres of vineyards. Linked by two aged steel spiral staircases, these tiers guide guests down into the core of the winery. The interior, adorned in earth tones, creates a hospitable space designed to perpetuate the Antinori family’s 600-year legacy in winemaking.

Engineered for gravity flow winemaking, a milder method that many believe retains the aroma and taste of the wine, the crushed grapes transition into fermentation tanks and are subsequently aged in a climate-controlled barrique room. By employing subterranean cellars, Antinori harkens back to the practices of classic winemakers while simultaneously minimizing environmental impact.

Although Antinori nel Chianti Classico is one of nine Antinori Estates in Tuscany, its modern design undoubtedly makes it one of the most distinctive. In 2022, it was honored as the World’s Best Vineyard, an accolade awarded by a panel of over 700 international wine specialists.

Whether you wish to stop by the wine shop for a quick tasting, enjoy lunch on the rooftop, or schedule a comprehensive winery tour, visiting Antinori nel Chianti Classico is essential for any wine enthusiast traveling to Tuscany.

Eugene Kim, Co-Founder and Editor-in-Chief of My Modern Met, explored the location during his time in Italy. “Driving through Tuscany was always a dream of mine,” he shares. “After researching, I discovered Antinori nel Chianti Classico and became enamored with their design and brand. Upon arriving on their premises, the vast space and spiral staircase were stunning, and I immensely enjoyed the CRU Tour, where we traversed the beautiful barrel rooms, learned about their amazing wine selections, history, and winemaking technique. The wines were all splendid. I highly recommend a visit!”

Set within the central Tuscan landscape, Antinori nel Chianti Classico is a masterpiece of contemporary design and traditional wine cultivation.

The winery descends three levels and is cloaked with more than 11 acres of vineyards.

Two grand weathered steel spiral staircases serve as the focal points of the estate.

This constitutes Antinori’s ninth winery in Tuscany, with the family’s winemaking history stretching back 26 generations.

The winery is structured for gravity flow winemaking, a soft approach that has a diminished ecological footprint.
