Life-Scaled Wire Framework Animal Sculptures Showcased in German Museum Exhibits
British artist Kendra Haste is celebrated for her life-sized animal sculptures made from hexagonal mesh, colloquially referred to as chicken wire. Her groundbreaking work delves into the idea of three-dimensional drawing, encapsulating the spirit and personality of animals without attributing human traits to them. Haste’s sculptures have been displayed in exhibitions throughout the UK, the U.S., and Asia, and are making their debut in Germany.
The show, named “Big Bad Wolf,” takes place at the Iron Art Casting (Eisenkunstguss) Museum Büdelsdorf and continues until November 2, 2025. It showcases 11 sculptures that depict the native wildlife of Northern Germany, such as wolves, a stag, a lynx, and a white-tailed eagle. These creations engage in a conversation with the museum’s permanent collection, juxtaposing the delicacy of wire sculpture with the heaviness of cast iron.
Haste’s works confront misunderstandings about various animals and encourage spectators to rethink their connections with nature, particularly concerning ecological challenges and the decline of biodiversity. The exhibition invites contemplation of wildlife preservation and harmonious coexistence with the natural world.
