David Hockney’s Most Extensive Exhibit Unveils at Fondation Louis Vuitton
David Hockney’s most extensive and ambitious exhibition to date, “David Hockney 25,” is currently showcased at the Fondation Louis Vuitton in Paris. The exhibition, which will be open until August 31, 2025, features over 400 works that cover seven decades of Hockney’s remarkable career, integrating his innovative modernist paintings, portraits, digital creations, and immersive installations.
Providing a thorough exploration into Hockney’s imaginative realm, the exhibition kicks off with his renowned pieces from the 1950s to the 1970s, including iconic works such as “A Bigger Splash” (1967) and “Portrait of an Artist (Pool with Two Figures)” (1972). The collection then shifts its focus to the artist’s most recent 25 years, showcasing landscapes inspired by his experiences in Yorkshire, Normandy, and London.
A prominent feature is the “220 for 2020” series on the first floor, depicting the seasonal transformations of Normandy through landscapes created on an iPad. This series, together with over 60 digital portraits, encourages a dialogue about the integration of digital art within conventional art paradigms.
The upper levels envelop visitors in Hockney’s vivid universe, highlighting reinterpretations of his theatrical set designs and a gallery reimagined as a dance hall, mirroring his domestic space. The exhibition wraps up with newer pieces influenced by Edvard Munch and William Blake, providing fresh perspectives on Hockney’s evolving creativity.
This extraordinary exhibition not only signifies a pivotal moment in Hockney’s journey but also showcases the ongoing development of his artistic vision, reinforcing his prominence in the realm of contemporary art. Attendees are welcomed to connect with Hockney’s masterpieces in an unparalleled, expansive environment at the Fondation Louis Vuitton.
