Monochrome Posters Showcasing Stunning Art Surface on Parisian Streets
Parisian street artist Alexandre Monteiro, recognized by the name Hopare, is well-known for his unique ability to fuse the abstract with the figurative. Intricate linework delineates the traits of his typically female subjects, while geometric lines chop and reshape the face into smaller segments.
As Monteiro actively prepares in the studio for his solo exhibition in Paris this November, his first there in five years, he took a pause last month to venture into the streets. A striking, 13-foot-tall poster adhered to the walls of Paris unveiled his new series, The Fabric of Silences, to the audience.
In this piece, a young woman gazes sideways with a resolute expression. She almost appears to emerge from a geometric outline, with floral elements and a scarf accentuating her face. She conveys a sense of contemplation, burdened by her thoughts.
“Its lines are woven from stories, from heavy gazes, from words kept deep inside,” the artist shares on Instagram. “This face belongs to all those who never had the space, the time, or the right to speak.” It’s a poignant expression in a public setting, where many likely grapple with similar emotions.
This stylistic decision to produce black and white posters marks a refreshing return to Hopare’s origins, having matured in a street art environment that was not characterized by large murals, but rather by subtle, understated works that catch the eye of passersby. As he pursues this direction, we eagerly anticipate what lies ahead.
