Frieze Seoul 2025: A Comprehensive Examination of the Fourth Edition of the Global Art Fair in September

The continuously growing creative narrative of Asia can be seen in Frieze Seoul, which is just slightly more than a week away from returning for its fourth edition. Taking place from September 3–6, 2025, in the dynamic Gangnam district, the fair highlights Korea and the broader Asian art landscape, spanning various generations and fields. It is also open to including galleries from around the world. Frieze Seoul will present 120 galleries and will encompass special projects, institutional partnerships, and programming that elevates the voices of greater Asia with “notable participation” from Japan, Taiwan, and China, along with Indonesia and Thailand.

Events like Frieze Seoul provide art collectors and enthusiasts the chance to see a wide array of works within one expansive venue. Consequently, specific sections of the fair can help contextualize artists and galleries while offering a distinctive platform for the artwork within the broader scope of the exhibition.

In the case of Frieze Seoul, there will be two specialized sections: Frieze Masters and Focus Asia. Frieze Masters will display post-war and modern art from Asia and beyond to emphasize interconnected histories and often overlooked global narratives. Attendees can anticipate Japanese abstraction, Taiwanese avant-garde, and more. In contrast, Focus Asia will feature 10 solo exhibits by emerging artists from the region to showcase the “energy and complexity” that characterizes contemporary life in Asia today.

Frieze Seoul is collaborating with headline partner LG OLED to merge art with technology. For this purpose, LG will present a lounge dedicated to the Korean artist Park Seo-Bo, a prominent figure in the Korean contemporary art scene and a founding member of the Dansaekhwa monochrome movement, which fuses “traditional Korean spirit” with Western abstraction.

Patrick Lee, the director of Frieze Seoul, considers the fair as reinforcing Seoul’s status as a cultural cornerstone in the broader art community. “This year’s edition highlights the fair’s deepening roots in the region, with most of the participating galleries running spaces throughout Asia, while retaining its global ethos,” Lee states. “This is a moment to celebrate both the vitality of Korea’s creative scene and the significant cross-regional and international dialogues that continue to thrive here.”

While a fair typically exists temporarily, Frieze Seoul is making a lasting mark. “We are particularly excited to commemorate this moment with the opening of Frieze House Seoul, our new permanent gallery space,” Lee reveals, “starting with the first exhibition UnHouse curated by Jae Seok Kim, focusing on queer viewpoints of home and identity.”
