Tadao Ando Creates the National Museum of Uzbekistan Emphasizing Geometric Design

Japanese architect Tadao Ando has initiated his first significant endeavor in Central Asia with the National Museum of Uzbekistan. Located in Tashkent, this museum will serve as an essential establishment for safeguarding Uzbek heritage. Ando’s minimalist approach utilizes a variety of geometric forms—circular, square, and triangular—to establish a unified structure that accommodates both a museum and a library. By concentrating on fundamental shapes, Ando intends to design a space for impactful ideas and artistic expression, acting as a cultural landmark. Uzbekistan’s president, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, views the museum as a symbol of the nation’s cultural revitalization and global openness. Within, exhibition areas designed by Atelier Brückner promise to deliver an immersive sensory experience. Scheduled for a March 2028 inauguration, the museum aspires to motivate and educate upcoming generations of Uzbek creatives.
