Advance Your Arts Career with a Fully Funded MFA at the University at Buffalo

The University at Buffalo’s Department of Art is now accepting applications for its Master of Fine Arts (MFA) in Studio Art degree. This MFA program spans two years and includes active participation from students, faculty, visiting artists, and curators in vibrant, interdisciplinary, and contemporary art discussions. Located in a thriving professional arts community, the program allows students to develop their independent studio practices through thematic labs, research, academic electives, seminars, studio visits, group critiques, and exhibitions. Graduates often achieve recognition in international art circles.
The Department of Art is part of an R1-designated research university, providing students access to diverse creative and academic resources. It is housed in the Center for the Arts, which also includes departments of Media Study, Theater, and Dance, as well as the University at Buffalo Art Galleries’ CFA Gallery.
The program’s curriculum supports interdisciplinary studio practice and research. Students are guided by a thesis committee comprising full-time faculty to emphasize conceptual experimentation, individual exploration, critical thinking, and autonomous production leading to a public exhibition. Teaching appointments with full funding and health insurance are available, along with full-tuition scholarships for all MFA students.
MFA students benefit from spacious individual studios and extensive departmental facilities, which include tools for both manual and digital fabrication, photography facilities, print media and audio production equipment, as well as the Art and Science laboratory, Coalesce: Center for Biological Arts, and Project Space for experimental exhibitions.
The faculty includes acclaimed professionals such as Marc Böhlen, Becky Brown, Noah Breuer, Crystal Z. Campbell, Millie Chen, and others. The deadline for applications is January 15, 2026.
