Expand Your Artistic Practice with Maine College of Art & Design’s MFA in Studio Art Program

The Master of Fine Arts in Studio Art (MFA) program at Maine College of Art & Design (MECA&D) offers a comprehensive approach designed to break down traditional academic boundaries. This interdisciplinary program encourages students to engage deeply with their art practice while exploring new intellectual territories.
Spanning six terms, the curriculum is centered on studio practice, individual research, and critical analysis. By emphasizing personalized mentorship from renowned faculty, visiting artists, and art professionals, MECA&D fosters a supportive environment for students seeking to cultivate a sustainable and transformative art practice.
MECA&D provides both Full and Low Residency options to accommodate diverse student needs. The Full Residency program offers round-the-clock access to private studios and advanced facilities, promoting immersive collaboration among peers and faculty. The Low Residency option, a pioneering model in the U.S., offers intensive on-campus sessions interspersed with remote work, allowing students global flexibility. These group sessions integrate travel and dialogue throughout the two-year program.
Central to MECA&D’s MFA experience is the Summer Intensive in Portland, Maine, required for all students during the first and fourth terms. This eight-week residency acts as a fertile ground for community building and knowledge exchange. Participants benefit from public lectures and studio visits from distinguished guests, fostering engaged and rich discussions.
For prospective students, the following application deadlines are important to note: January 18, 2026, for the Full-tuition Scholarship, February 22, 2026, for Priority Acceptance, with the program commencing on June 15, 2026.
