Emails Reveal Artist Andres Serrano’s Discussions About Trump With Jeffrey Epstein

A trove of documents related to Jeffrey Epstein, newly released by the House Oversight Committee, revealed an exchange between the deceased sex offender and artist-provocateur Andres Serrano. On October 10, 2016, Serrano discussed his voting intentions with Epstein, mentioning that, although he was prepared to vote against Trump, he considered giving him a sympathy vote due to the backlash from Trump’s controversial comments.

In the same exchange, Serrano shared that he had returned from his exhibition in Ireland titled “Torture,” including a photo of himself with a piece from the series.

Serrano, known for his provocative works like “Piss Christ,” entered controversial territories again with his portraits of figures like Epstein and Trump. Despite the contentious nature of his work, Serrano maintains that he observes rather than judges political matters.

Epstein’s art world dealings are further highlighted, discussing the provenance of Leonardo da Vinci’s “Salvator Mundi” with journalist Michael Wolff and considering art acquisitions with an advisor, Etienne Binant, during the Trump presidency. These discussions give further insight into Epstein’s connections within the art world.

In July, Serrano denied having political intentions, stating, “I’m not political. I don’t judge, I observe.” Despite these claims, his artworks often provoke strong reactions and interpretations, blurring the lines between art, politics, and controversy.
