17-Year-Old Makes History as the Youngest to Successfully Pass the California Bar Exam

At merely 17 years old, Sophia Park reached the astounding feat of becoming the youngest individual ever to pass the California bar exam, a record that was formerly held by her brother, Peter Park. Following this extraordinary success, she was officially sworn in as Tulare County’s latest deputy district attorney by District Attorney Tim Ward on March 28. This achievement transcends her age; it highlights her decision to serve as a prosecutor, advocating for victims and pursuing justice with honor.

Sophia’s path into the legal profession commenced at the tender age of 13 when she began studying law while enrolled in junior high at Oxford Academy in Cypress, California. By the age of 15, she had completed high school through the California High School Proficiency Exam (CHSPE) and gained acceptance into Northwestern California University School of Law, where she is set to acquire her law degree in 2024. Her entrance into law school was made possible by a state bar regulation that acknowledges College Level Examination Program (CLEP) credits as a substitute for conventional college classes.

Sophia began her legal career as a law clerk at the Tulare County District Attorney’s Office and now holds the position of deputy district attorney.
