Discover the Untamed Peruvian Amazon on a Luxurious Riverboat

The remarkable Amazon Basin encompasses a vast expanse of primarily unspoiled wilderness that remains predominantly uncharted. Accessible solely by river, luxury travel provider Abercrombie & Kent (A&K) has developed a means to explore it aboard their new riverboat, Pure Amazon. Debuting in mid-2025, this contemporary five-star vessel transports guests through the wildlife-abundant wetlands of the Pacaya-Samiria National Reserve.
This breathtaking reserve is the largest protected area in Peru, spanning 8,000 square miles. From June to November, the low-water season provides optimal conditions for sighting rare birds and animals. In the high-water months—approximately December to May—the rising rivers inundate much of Pacaya-Samiria, forming an extensive, water-laden landscape to navigate from a completely different vantage point.
Conceived by architect Adriana Granato of Studio Ibsen, the Pure Amazon riverboat fuses modern aesthetics with environmentally conscious features, like low-level lighting that minimizes disturbance to nocturnal wildlife. With only 12 carefully crafted suites, the Pure Amazon’s intimate scale delivers a highly personalized experience while lessening its impact on the local wildlife.
Guests can relish expansive views and numerous chances to observe wildlife and avian life. Additionally, A&K offers skiff adventures, jungle treks, and stargazing opportunities to enhance your itinerary. After an exhaustive day of discovery, you can savor the riverboat’s offerings of Peruvian, Amazonian, and global cuisine.
A&K has also collaborated with Nueva Arica, an Indigenous community, and Amanatari, a nonprofit organization supporting Amazonian Indigenous groups. Through these collaborations, A&K is endorsing various “bio-business” initiatives, such as honey production and natural fiber crafting. Visitors on the three-night journeys can engage with the Nueva Arica communities directly and witness these projects in progress.
