Mitchell Johnson’s Art Exhibition “Personal Color” at Galerie Mercier, Paris

**Mitchell Johnson: Personal Color Exhibition Announced at Galerie Mercier in Paris**

American painter Mitchell Johnson will showcase a compelling collection of 25 intimate paintings in a solo exhibition titled *Mitchell Johnson: Personal Color (Selected Small Paintings 1988–2026)* at Galerie Mercier in Paris. The exhibition runs from February 28 to March 21, 2026, highlighting almost four decades of Johnson’s artistic journey.

Influenced by renowned artists such as Edward Hopper and Hans Hofmann, Johnson has developed a unique style characterized by his exploration of color, shape, and scale. His work is deeply inspired by his frequent sojourns in Paris and Cape Cod, two locations that have significantly shaped his artistic vision. Johnson’s educational background at Parsons School of Design in the 1980s, including studying under Hofmann’s former students, has profoundly impacted his style and approach.

Through this exhibition, Johnson aims to showcase the connection between Hofmann’s pedagogical legacy and its ongoing influence on American contemporary painting. *Personal Color* will be accompanied by an opening reception on February 28, from 3 to 5pm (CET), and an artist talk featuring Johnson on March 14, from 2 to 3pm (CET).

Johnson’s work is part of numerous private and public collections, including 40 museums, and he has been celebrated with retrospectives at the Bakersfield Museum of Art and Musee Villa Les Camelias in Cap d’Ail, France. Besides Paris, his large-scale paintings can be seen in San Francisco through early April.
