Sagrada Família Reaches Maximum Height with the Finishing of Gaudí’s Central Spire

After 144 years of development, the Sagrada Família has achieved a significant milestone with the placement of the last piece on the central Tower of Jesus Christ, elevating the basilica to its complete height of 172.5 meters. Created by Antoni Gaudí, the tower ranks as the tallest church tower globally and dominates Barcelona’s skyline. Gaudí’s design features symbolic aspects, with each of the 18 intended spires symbolizing biblical figures. The tower’s architectural characteristics exemplify Gaudí’s combination of structure and symbolism, employing modern technology to ensure precision during construction. Although Gaudí never witnessed the central tower’s ascent, his vision has materialized, instilling faith and humility in its elevated structure and altering Barcelona’s skyline.
