On December 21, 2012, numerous individuals globally experienced heightened anticipation. A misunderstanding related to the Mayan calendar appeared to forecast the world’s end on this date. To begin with, it features three stunning locations around the globe: Tulum, Mexico; Bali, Indonesia; and Milagres, Brazil. Devoted to ensuring the area is left in better condition than it was found, the festival recruits industry experts to rehabilitate the green spaces afterwards, a consideration often overlooked by most music festivals worldwide. Nevertheless, they acknowledge the difficulties in motivating attendees to take similar care in preserving the environment.
Among the measures to safeguard the regions where the festival occurs are waste management and reduction, alongside onsite recycling and a comprehensive tracking system for the recycling process and post-event restoration. In Tulum, they have partnered with local conservation organizations, and since 2022 they have collaborated with Petgas to convert plastic into fuel, which they plan to use for festival generators.
“All of us have witnessed the catastrophic consequences of human activity on this planet. As an events industry, we have reached a critical juncture,” Day Zero emphasizes. “Every event we plan creates a significant impact on the Earth. It is time to take action.
