One highlighted piece is “Untitled” by Lyudmila Razumova, a Russian artist and photojournalist currently serving a seven-year sentence for anti-war graffiti. Her blue pen sketch on yellowed paper vividly captures the despair and resilience of those confronted by oppressive regimes. The drawing displays a dejected woman with a kitten beside her, surrounded by a faceless crowd and barbed wire\u2014a powerful testament to survival and resistance in confinement.<\/p>\n
The exhibition also features works like “Dostoevsky” by Oleg Navalny and “Everything will be alright” by Jan Katelevsky. It includes contributions from various artists who have experienced incarceration due to their dissent against Russian authorities.<\/p>\n
The opening of this exhibition, timed with the Venice Biennale, drew relatives of Ukrainian prisoners, emphasizing the global impact of these works. Richard Soli, director of Ritsch-Fisch Galerie, stresses that this exhibition aims not to entertain, but to evoke profound reflection on the conditions faced by these artists. The jury of the Venice Biennale also recently expressed solidarity by choosing not to consider countries whose leaders face charges of crimes against humanity, notably omitting Russia from their proceedings.<\/p>\n
