Treehouse Looks Like “Fruiting Fungi” Rising from Forest Ground
Treehouses are not solely for children—they are enchanting havens that enable individuals of all generations to bond with nature. Captivated by the concept of building structures upheld by living entities, designer Dustin Feider established 02 Treehouse in 2007. Currently, he and his diverse team of over 25 designers, engineers, and craftsmen persist in redefining the essence of treehouses, fabricating dreamlike retreats that once seemed unattainable.
Over the years, 02 Treehouse has crafted a multitude of extraordinary structures, but one of its most daring creations from 2024 is the Redwood Ripple Treehouse. The 500-square-foot platform rises 35 feet into the treetops and imitates the natural shapes of fungi. Totally supported by the nearby trees via centralized laser-cut steel frames, the treehouse encompasses two separate sections: A glass-enclosed orb that is suspended among the trees and a winding staircase accompanied by a wooden deck.
The journey commences with a breathtaking spiral staircase, resembling a fruiting mushroom emerging from the forest floor. At its core, a wooden deck shaped like a ship’s hull functions as a communal area on the upper level. Below it, a labyrinth of turquoise and blue net tunnels beckons both children and adults to discover.
Suspended walkways connect the main deck to the “Crystal Ball,” a geodesic edifice composed of glass panels adorned with color-changing LEDs. By day, it provides a mesmerizing viewpoint to appreciate the surrounding trees, while at night, it transforms into a luminous sphere, casting enchanting lights and reflections throughout the forest.
