Applications are now being accepted for the MFA in Visual Art program at Washington University in St. Louis (WashU). This two-year, fully residential program fosters a rich diversity of creative expression, spanning traditional methods, cutting-edge media, scholarly research, and socially engaged practice.
At WashU, a premier research university, the MFA program offers an intimate environment for artists and researchers. Students have access to extensive facilities and studios, which include a digital fabrication lab, printmaking and book studio, wood and metal shops, textile studios, and a time-based media art studio. These resources promote intellectual and material innovation across different artistic disciplines.
The curriculum is designed to equip students for a multifaceted approach to contemporary art, supporting long-term engagement and acknowledging various career paths in the arts. Students can enhance their studies through the Office for Socially Engaged Practice and unique opportunities like the Counterpublic triennial fellowship and Berlin Sommerakademie. Throughout the program, students develop work for several exhibitions, including those held at WashU’s prestigious Kemper Art Museum.
The dedicated core faculty includes Chair Tiffany Calvert, alongside accomplished artists and educators like Jamie Adams, Heather Bennett, Lisa Bulawsky, Joe deVera, Amy Hauft, Meghan Kirkwood, Arny Nadler, Patricia Olynyk, Jack Risley, Cheryl Wassenaar, and Monika Weiss.
