Danish Foreign Minister Gifts LEGO Model of the Great Pyramid of Giza to Egyptian Counterpart

The eagerly awaited Great Egyptian Museum officially unveiled its entrance on November 1. This significant event attracted numerous world leaders and international dignitaries, including King Felipe of Spain, German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier, and Dutch Prime Minister Dick Schoof. Yet, none appeared to leave quite the mark as Danish Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen. The official arrived with an inventive gift that beautifully represents the heritage of both Egypt and Denmark.

During his meeting with Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty, Rasmussen gifted him a LEGO Architecture Great Pyramid of Giza set, a piece that highlights arguably the most renowned aspect of both nations. The Danish minister posted a photo of the moment on Instagram, showcasing the huge grin it brought to his host’s face, reminiscent of a child opening a gift.

“This isn’t a paid promotion, but LEGO is a universally loved present,” stated Rasmussen. “My Egyptian counterpart, Badr Abdelatty, was thrilled with the large pyramid of Giza LEGO set. I believed it was an appropriate gift for the day when the Grand Egyptian Museum officially opens its doors.” In return, Egypt presented Denmark with a replica of the Tutankhamun death mask.

The 1,476-piece Great Pyramid of Giza set captures the majesty of the monument at its zenith, featuring ancient boats known as feluccas on the nearby Nile River, along with tunnels and chambers within the pyramid. This gift holds additional significance as, according to Brick Fanatics, it is the only LEGO Architecture set to illustrate a landmark as it would have appeared centuries ago, instead of its current appearance.

If you lack a public official to gift you one, you can purchase your own LEGO Architecture Great Pyramid of Giza set at LEGO’s website.
