Es Devlin to Showcase Three Art Pieces at Miami Art Week

Building upon her immensely successful installation at this year’s Salone del Mobile, artist Es Devlin is bringing a series of installations to Miami Art Week. Three site-specific installations that delve into the idea of libraries and learning will be displayed in the city in honor of the 10th anniversary of the local non-profit Faena Art.
Devlin’s Library of Us is a kinetic sculpture that will be positioned on the beach. This glowing, rotating library, containing 2,500 books, pays homage to the literature that has shaped Devlin’s philosophy, life, and artistic endeavors. As it gradually moves, visitors will be welcomed inside, reminiscent of the artist’s Library of Light earlier this year in Milan.
Each day, Devlin will arrange a reading table with these significant texts and invite readers to sit on stools, some fixed and some rotating with the exhibition, to explore her annotated books. Amidst the circle of slowly rotating stools, which shift with the sculpture, visitors will continuously discover new texts and new companions across the table, symbolizing learning and community.
This collection continues indoors at the Faena Cathedral, featuring a site-specific installation named Reading Room. Additionally, the Faena Project Room will offer an intimate glimpse into Devlin’s creative process through small, layered drawings and glass works, providing a more comprehensive view of her body of work.
“I have always regarded libraries as quiet, intensely vibrant spaces where minds and imaginations take flight, tethered like kites to their seated forms,” the artist states. “I feel the synaptic connections being created, the resonances and associations at play within the minds of a temporary community of readers. This installation intends to convey the vitality of the library through a series of interactions between viewers revolving to connect with one another through language around a circular collective reading table.”
Exhibited from December 2 to December 7, Devlin’s works are guaranteed to be a highlight of Miami Art Week. My Modern Met will be on-site, reporting directly from Miami about all the exceptional pieces on display, including Library of Us.
