James Turrell’s Biggest ‘Skyspace’ Set to Debut in Denmark Next Summer

James Turrell’s newest creation, “As Seen Below,” is set to be a groundbreaking enhancement to the ARoS Aarhus Art Museum in Denmark. Following his acclaimed Skyspace series, this installation, which will premiere in June 2026, invites guests into a reflective atmosphere where light and sky take center stage. “As Seen Below” represents Turrell’s most expansive Skyspace located in a museum, an architectural wonder measuring 16 meters tall and 40 meters wide. Accessible through an underground passage, the installation leads into a dome equipped with minimalist seating and a central opening, linking the inner space to the boundless sky overhead. As part of ARoS’ ambitious Next Level expansion, developed in collaboration with Schmidt Hammer Lassen Architects, the project aims to transform the museum’s interaction with contemporary art. James Turrell’s art calls for a profound awareness of light and time, urging viewers to perceive each moment as a lively engagement between art and nature.
