The city of Mons in Belgium recently celebrated the grand unveiling of its new train station, the Gare de Mons, crafted by the illustrious Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava. This architectural wonder, nearly twenty years in development, has reshaped the city’s skyline with its bold and graceful design.
**A Monumental Bridge of Connectivity**
Imagined as a “monumental bridge,” the Gare de Mons stretches across the station’s tracks, acting as a central nexus for its extensive 350-meter-long platforms. The design enables seamless movement with seven passenger tracks, 29 bus stops, taxi stands, and “kiss and ride” zones. The station’s highlight, its central gallery, extends 165 meters in length and reaches a height of 15 meters, providing a harmonious and calm environment for travelers. The balanced triangular trusses, curved glass exteriors, timber frames, and Belgian blue limestone flooring enhance its peaceful ambiance.

Taking on a vital role along the Paris-Brussels international route, Gare de Mons is among Belgium’s major transit stations.
