Three-Year-Old Child Sets World Record as the Youngest Chess Player with an Official Rating

In an astonishing display of youthful brilliance, Sarwagya Singh Kushwaha, a toddler from India, has made history by becoming the youngest chess player ever to receive an official rating from the International Chess Federation (FIDE). At the tender age of just 3 years, 7 months, and 20 days, Sarwagya has left both his family and chess aficionados in awe of his extraordinary talent for the game.

Sarwagya began his chess adventures at merely 2.5 years old. Despite his youthful years, it quickly became clear that his intellectual capacity was far beyond his age. His daily schedule is filled with three to four hours of online chess, coupled with video analysis of strategies, and further refined by an hour of committed training at a chess academy. His diligent efforts have resulted in a FIDE rating of 1,572, exceeding the 1,400-point benchmark needed to acquire an official rating.

Importantly, obtaining a FIDE rating requires competing against five rated players and successfully earning points through draws or wins in official tournaments. Sarwagya’s coach, Nitin Chaurasiya, praised the young talent, emphasizing his boldness and impressive mental skills. “He displays no reluctance in responding to inquiries and competes bravely against older opponents,” Chaurasiya stated to The Indian Express.

Sarwagya’s father provided insights into his son’s remarkable ability to learn, mentioning that within a week of first encountering chess, Sarwagya could easily identify all the pieces. His unmatched enthusiasm and perseverance distinguish him, highlighting his commitment and passion for chess, even in the quiet moments of night.

Sarwagya’s outstanding achievement surpasses the previous record set by another Indian prodigy, Anish Sarkar, who attained the title at 3 years, 8 months, and 19 days old. The emerging talents of young chess players from India continue to impress the global chess community.
