The 2026 Art + Environment Summit: Under Pressure at Nevada Museum of Art

The Nevada Museum of Art is set to host the 2026 Art + Environment Summit: Under Pressure, a transformative three-day event from April 16–18, 2026, in Reno, Nevada. This event aims to address the pressing issue of climate change, with a focus on envisioning sustainable futures. Renowned figures, including Kim Stanley Robinson, Jeffrey Gibson, LaToya Ruby Frazier, and Rose B. Simpson, will converge to discuss and propose solutions for building regenerative societies.
The Summit aligns with the museum-wide exhibition “Into the Time Horizon” and promises a robust lineup of presentations. Notably, Kim Stanley Robinson, Rose B. Simpson, Cannupa Hanska Luger, and the Land Art Generator Initiative will lead “Proposals for the Future,” offering insights into sustainable innovations. Jeffrey Gibson’s discourse on Indigenous Futures with Judith Lowry and Lawrence Paul Yuxweluptun, alongside eco-feminist dialogues moderated by Johanna Burton, underscore the inclusive, interdisciplinary approach of the event.
Artistic and intellectual contributions will abound, including performances by environmental artists like Katie Paterson and poets like Kathy Jetñil-Kijiner, alongside Dr. Bernie Krauss’s immersive soundscapes. Discussions on land conservation will be spearheaded by influential figures such as Haley Mellin and Oscar Tuazon.
The Summit’s historical significance is highlighted by its role in catalyzing landmark projects such as Ugo Rondinone’s “Seven Magic Mountains” and Trevor Paglen’s “Orbital Reflector.” The event seeks to emulate past successes by generating innovative ideas and fostering collaboration.
Apsara DiQuinzio, chief curator and Summit organizer, emphasizes the gathering’s mission to incorporate diverse perspectives and creative expertise in tackling ecological challenges, offering hope and actionable strategies for a sustainable future.
