Dracula Land Theme Park to Bring Timeless Gothic Terror to Existence in Romania

With its historic castles and rich folklore, Romania stands out as the ideal site for a Dracula-inspired amusement park. Luckily, a coalition of dedicated investors, architects, and engineers is collaborating to bring the renowned gothic horror universe to existence. Dracula Land is a €1 billion ($1.2 billion) entertainment initiative touted as the first of its kind, set to premiere sometime between 2026 and 2027.

Situated just outside of Bucharest, the new 780,000-square-meter (8.3-million-square-foot) theme park will comprise six areas inspired by the classic vampire narrative, along with over 40 attractions and cutting-edge technology. The initiative is headed by Chris Lange, a previous creative director at Europa-Park, and ranks among the largest theme park projects currently in development across Europe.

Future visitors will enter the park via the Moonlit District, an animated main avenue adorned with magnificent architecture influenced by historical Bucharest. Notable attractions will include the Transylvanian Railway, a projection and drone presentation, and a dual carousel. From there, guests can wander through the Family Kingdom, which showcases “supernatural beings” from various cultures around the globe, before entering a striking replica of Transylvania and the legendary Dracula Castle. Two more themed areas unite the opulent park—a werewolf-themed interpretation of New Orleans, and misty Victorian streets drawing inspiration from Gothic London. There’s also a racing circuit, a water park, and a thermal spa.

“Dracula Land combines all that I’ve gained from real estate: discipline, rigor, vision, and the capacity to unite intricate teams with diverse expertise,” states Dragoș Dobrescu, the architect behind Dracula Land. “But, more significantly, it weaves a narrative that imparts significance to each square meter constructed. For me, Dracula Land symbolizes a national endeavor—a testament that Romania can and should create landmarks, beyond mere buildings or simple real estate developments.”

In addition to the physical amusement park, Dracula Land is also being developed in the digital realm, featuring a metaverse constructed in Unreal Engine 5, a “digital twin” that allows millions of users to explore, engage, and connect with the park from any location worldwide.
