Digital Repository of Georgia O’Keeffe’s Entire Collection Launched by Museum
In 1940, the American artist Georgia O’Keeffe remarked, “My painting is what I have to give back to the world for what the world gives to me.” The essence of this generosity continues through the Georgia O’Keeffe Museum in Sante Fe, which has been striving to make all of her artworks accessible online via the newly introduced portal, Access O’Keeffe.
O’Keeffe’s breathtaking flower artworks rank among the most emblematic pieces of the 20th century, yet the artist created a diverse array of subjects, encompassing landscapes, animals, skulls, and the sky. Through Access O’Keeffe, you can now explore more than 2,000 of the artist’s creations categorized by theme, timeframe, or medium. The digital collection also features over 850 works by other artists housed in the O’Keeffe Museum, including photographers capturing O’Keeffe and her surrounding New Mexico landscapes, where she resided from 1949 until her passing in 1986.
The extensive archive additionally contains photographs, letters, and other memorabilia pertaining to O’Keeffe. You can even investigate some of the artist’s personal items, such as furniture, clothing, art supplies, materials for artworks like bones and rocks, and volumes from her personal library.
While exploring the digital archive, you’ll find high-resolution images of O’Keeffe’s artworks that you can download for educational or creative purposes. Each artwork is accompanied by a description, and you can delve into its broader context by viewing preceding and succeeding works, as well as its exhibition history. You also have the option to save your favorites for later, making it an excellent resource for exploring O’Keeffe’s life and creations.
