Ed Sheeran Reveals His Splatter Artworks at First London Exhibition
It appears that Ed Sheeran is not only a top-selling and award-winning artist but also has a flair for painting. Currently on display at HENI in London are his Cosmic Carpark Paintings, a collection of splattered canvases created to help him sustain his creativity whenever he took a break from music.
In a recent video shared by Sheeran, he mentioned that he started painting in 2019 during “between shows,” primarily “for fun and to give to friends.” His artworks, as the artist himself acknowledges, attempt to capture the spontaneity and liveliness of Jackson Pollock’s style, with Sheeran dripping, tossing, and splashing “colorful house paint” over large canvases. The Cosmic Carpark series developed later, in 2024, amid Sheeran’s Mathematics Tour. During breaks in his performance timetable, he would make his way to a vacant car park in London’s Soho area and find solace in painting, drawing inspiration from celestial shapes.
“I don’t consider myself ‘an artist,’ but I truly enjoy creating art,” he shares. “It makes me feel amazing, and I appreciate the final product.” In another remark, he stated: “Each morning I would dash to the carpark, paint, then sprint home, repeating this every day until I was back on the road again.”
It was inevitable that the musician would be approached regarding his artworks, encouraged to exhibit them by his close friends, Joe Hage and the acclaimed contemporary artist Damien Hirst. Now, just a year after the inception of Cosmic Carpark Paintings, HENI is the first venue to publicly display Sheeran’s visual art, providing visitors the opportunity to acquire his original artworks and associated limited-edition prints. Importantly, Sheeran’s 50% share of the revenue and all funds from the $400 prints will be contributed to his namesake foundation, which aims to offer inclusive music education for children across the United Kingdom. The foundation also focuses on grassroots music initiatives, schools, and resources, highlighting its commitment to accessibility.
“When I was younger, both of my parents were involved in art, so I’ve always had a natural inclination towards it,” Sheeran elaborated. “I genuinely liked studying art in school.”
Both Sheeran’s paintings and prints can be bought online until 5:00 p.m. BST on Aug. 1, 2025. Ed Sheeran: Cosmic Carpark Paintings will also be displayed at HENI until Aug. 1.
For the first time ever, Ed Sheeran is presenting his own series of splatter paintings at HENI in London.
Titled Cosmic Carpark Paintings, this series was produced whenever Sheeran experienced performance breaks during his Mathematics Tour in 2024.
Sheeran’s portion of the earnings from art sales will be allocated to his foundation, which is dedicated to ensuring inclusive music education for children in the UK.
