Celebrities Display Shepard Fairey’s Artists4Ceasefire Pin During the Oscars

The Oscars, an event watched worldwide, have always served as a venue for more than merely honoring cinematic accomplishments. In recent times, they have increasingly transformed into a platform where artists advocate for social and political matters. A significant initiative showcasing this change is Artists4Ceasefire, which entails actors and filmmakers leveraging their visibility to champion global peace, specifically urging for a fair resolution regarding Palestine and Israel.

During the 2024 Oscars, the Artists4Ceasefire movement made a significant impression as numerous celebrities adorned red pins representing their support for the cause. This initiative saw a revival at the 98th Academy Awards on March 15, 2026, where a new pin was unveiled. This pin, crafted by renowned artist Shepard Fairey, showcases a white dove alongside the phrase “Artists For Ceasefire. A Just Peace.” Fairey highlighted the unifying nature of art, asserting, “Art has the ability to remind us that, before borders and boundaries, we are all citizens of this planet first.” His partnership with Artists4Ceasefire seeks to foster solidarity and human dignity on a global scale.

Among the celebrities sporting these pins was Canadian-Jordanian actress Saja Kilani, recognized for her performance in “The Voice of Hind Rajab.” Kilani articulated that the pin signifies liberation for nations enduring violence, such as Palestine, Sudan, and even those in the U.S. impacted by ICE raids. Actress Amer Hlehel remarked on the absence of their lead actor, Motaz Malhees, who was unable to attend due to travel restrictions linked to his Palestinian citizenship and prior U.S. administration policies.

Javier Bardem also seized the Oscars stage to express his opinions, donning both anti-war and pro-Palestine pins. Renowned for his candid disposition, Bardem previously sported an anti-war pin during the Iraq War and revived the emblem as a protest against the ongoing conflict with Iran, making a bold statement during his award presentation.

The Artists4Ceasefire movement continues to garner backing from prominent figures in Hollywood, including Pedro Pascal, Mark Ruffalo, Cate Blanchett, Rachel McAdams, Bradley Cooper, and Joaquin Phoenix, among others. Through these endeavors, the Oscars are being utilized not just to celebrate talent but also to advocate for global peace and justice.
