LEGO is set to launch a 12,000-piece replica of Spain’s Sagrada Família, establishing a new record.
The Sagrada Família has recently claimed the title of the tallest church in the world with the finalization of the central tower, which is the highest element of the basilica. To commemorate this monumental milestone, LEGO seems ready to unveil an equally impressive set. There are rumors suggesting that the toy manufacturer is set to launch a 12,060-piece LEGO Architecture model of Antoni Gaudí’s creation in Barcelona, positioning it as the largest set (by piece count) in LEGO’s history.
The concept, leaked by an individual referred to as Chief Wiggum, who is known for accurately forecasting set announcements, suggests that the Sagrada Família LEGO set will be released on July 1, just after the centenary of Gaudí’s passing on June 10.
The extensive number of pieces would ensure a thorough representation of the numerous features that characterize this remarkable structure, from the facades narrating the life of Jesus, to the vibrant stained glass windows that illuminate the basilica, to its 18 soaring spires. If this information is accurate, it would surpass the current largest set by piece count, the Art World Map, which contains 11,695 LEGO bricks.
The Sagrada Família itself remains far from completion, with work on the Glory facade, the largest of all, potentially prolonging construction for several additional years. This is especially true since the residential building located in front of the basilica would need to be demolished. Considering these challenges, it remains uncertain whether LEGO will design its set based on the current structure or the proposed designs for the future church. Regardless, it’s bound to be a hit among LEGO enthusiasts.
