22,580 Drones Set Guinness World Record in Stunning Sky Illumination Show
An array of remarkable advancements have emerged in the realm of drones, especially in light shows. This has led to distinct achievements and records ripe for breaking, each unique and enjoyable in its own right. A notable Guinness World Record was established in February 2026. The accolade for the Most multirotor/drones airborne simultaneously from a single computer (outdoors) was claimed by the Chinese firm Guangdong EHang Egret Media Technology Co., Ltd., which illuminated the evening sky with a dazzling exhibition.
During this event, an astonishing 22,580 drones soared above the city of Hefei, the capital of Anhui province in China, with only around 25 units experiencing take-off failures—an impressive success rate considering the scale of the show. Even with these minor issues, the total far exceeded the former record of 15,847 drones airborne from the same computer. This spectacle occurred on February 3 as part of the 2026 China Media Group (CMG) Spring Festival Gala, preceding the Lunar New Year festivities.
The performance showcased 3D representations of Hefei’s skyline and the renowned Hui-style horse-head walls. Remarkably, it featured festive lanterns, with the team programming gentle movements to simulate these decorations swaying softly in the breeze. Additionally, drones were deployed to capture aerial footage of the event, providing both onlookers below and future viewers video of a captivating experience.
“By intertwining Lunar New Year well-wishes into the showcase, EHang Egret has innovated a new way of merging low-altitude technology with cultural narratives,” Guangdong EHang Egret Media Technology Co., Ltd stated. “It also bridged unmanned aircraft technology closer to the public, increasing awareness and comprehension of the developing low-altitude economy.”
This milestone is not the first for the Chinese company, a front-runner in advanced drone technologies. In 2018, it achieved its inaugural Guinness World Record by orchestrating the flight of over a thousand drones across Xi’an. Since then, the organization has focused on making safe, autonomous, and environmentally friendly air mobility available to all.
“This remarkable accomplishment highlights the extraordinary accuracy, coordination, and technological progress in contemporary drone operations,” remarked Guinness World Records regarding this latest feat, which can be revisited in the video above.
