National Geographic’s ‘Exploration Museum’ Set to Unveil This Summer

On June 26, 2026, the Museum of Exploration (MOE) will debut at the National Geographic Society headquarters located in Washington, D.C. This eagerly awaited museum features over 100,000 square feet of public area, crafted to engage visitors with the marvels of the natural world.

The distinctive architecture of MOE enhances the 130-year-old National Geographic campus. Owing to a generous donation from Rolex in 2023, the campus is being revitalized in tandem with the museum’s development. Attendees will experience a magnificent entrance and an outdoor pavilion enveloped by lush greenery, highlighted by National Geographic’s recognizable rectangle logo, perfectly positioned for photo opportunities.

Within, visitors will encounter a collection of galleries and displays that highlight over a century of National Geographic’s archival resources. The museum offers glimpses into the organization’s legacy, showcasing some of National Geographic’s earliest maps and filmmaking methods. Interactive digital displays present over 300 images, video clips, artifacts, and audio recordings.

Key attractions at the MOE include the Rolex Explorers Landing, showcasing National Geographic’s Explorers and their narratives, in addition to the exhibit “In Focus: Photographs of National Geographic,” which features the magazine’s most impactful images. Temporary exhibitions such as “Photo Ark: Animals of Earth” by photographer Joel Sartore will also be showcased.

MOE prioritizes accessibility, offering signage in English and Spanish, Braille, and ASL. The general admission fee is $29.99 for adults, with discounts offered through Museums for All.
