The LA Art Show Makes a Bold Cultural Statement with the First Latin American Pavilion

The 31st edition of the LA Art Show is making waves in downtown Los Angeles, challenging its reputation as the city’s “unhip” art fair. This year, the show highlights its cultural and political significance through several innovative projects, prominently featuring a debut Latin American Pavilion curated by Marisa Caichiolo.

Caichiolo’s groundbreaking contribution includes three booths: Artier Gallery from Palm Springs, Verse Gallery from Ft. Lauderdale, and her own Building Bridges Art Exchange. This initiative aims to begin correcting the historical underrepresentation of Latin American artists at the fair, bringing to the forefront bold works from Brazil, Mexico, Guatemala, Peru, Chile, and more.

Artier Gallery features Natasha Grey’s striking “Mutable Sun” and Carlos Luna James’s futuristic masks, offering powerful narratives intrinsic to the Latin American experience. Verse Gallery provides a fresh take with Johnny Lopez’s resin sculptures and Maca Viva’s paintings, which challenge male power structures. Both presentations explore intersectional identities and cultural dialogues.

The fair also includes DIVERSEartLA, organized around the theme of biennials. A highlight is the retrospective of artist Marcos Ramirez (ERRE), celebrating his longstanding engagement with Latine identity and immigration issues through impactful works like “187 Pairs of Hands.”

This assembly of Latin American artists offers a window into the vibrant and varied cultures of the region, demanding attention and respect from the art world. With an extensive international roster of 90 exhibitors, including Epicentrum Gallery and Rebecca Hossack Gallery, the 2026 LA Art Show underscores its resilience and relevance, inviting visitors to witness its evolution beyond the commercial and conventional.

Catch the 2026 LA Art Show before it closes on Sunday, January 11, and immerse yourself in the dynamic narratives that challenge and expand the boundaries of art and representation.
