Media Art Luminary Asher Remy-Toledo: A Tribute

Asher Remy-Toledo, a beloved New York cultural producer, passed away on February 22 in Medellín, Colombia, at the age of 62 due to Hodgkin’s lymphoma. A pioneer in the media art scene, he founded several influential initiatives, most notably Hyphen Hub, which became a cornerstone for integrating art and technology. Over 30 years, he fostered a community for artists through his galleries and projects. Notable achievements include his eponymous gallery, the revival of the Red Door arts venue, and his participation in the Ars Electronica festival. Even in his final years, Asher was actively organizing the Imagenfest in Medellín, leaving behind a legacy of creativity and connection. Survived by his partner, Stephen McGroarty, Asher’s impact on media art history is profound, and his influence endures through the artistic community he cultivated.
