
2026 Sony World Photography Awards Reveals Professional Competition Winners
The Sony World Photography Awards 2026 has announced its winners, displaying a wide range of innovative and evocative images. This esteemed event showcases works that span from portraiture to landscapes, bridging the divide between photography and fine art. Among the distinguished photographs, Citlali Fabián was honored with the Photographer of the Year award for her series “Bilha, Stories of my Sisters,” which highlights the narratives of inspiring women in southern Mexico while incorporating digital illustrations to enhance the storytelling and representation of Indigenous community collaboration.
Fabián, who also received the Latin America Professional Award, conveyed her gratitude and focus on elevating the voices of women involved in the endeavor. Her selection came from 430,000 submissions, further affirming the significance and caliber of her work.
Other prominent winners include Elle Leontiev, named Open Photographer of the Year for a portrait of Phillip Yamah, a self-taught volcanologist. Various categories showcased remarkable talent, such as Dafna Talmor in Professional Landscape with abstract reimaginings of landscapes, Jean-Marc Caimi & Valentina Piccinni in Professional Portraiture with a touching image from Pope Francis’s funeral mass, and Seungho Kim in Professional Perspectives with “The Watermelon War,” which examines familial dynamics through a metaphorical approach.
The awards also recognized emerging talent like Jubair Ahmed Arnob from Bangladesh, who earned the title of Student Photographer of the Year for “The River Without Fish,” a powerful commentary on environmental change.
